Timber and Table
Timber and Table is a restaurant created through the adaptive reuse of a vernacular courtyard house in Zhejiang, China. Original timber beams, brick walls, tiled roofs and worn thresholds were retained and restored with traditional craft techniques. Concealed steel supports and modern building systems were added to meet current safety and service needs. A transitional space and a staircase connect the front and rear volumes. The central courtyard was reimagined as a reflecting pool with koi fish, offering a quiet pause for guests.
Timber and Table Restaurant by Luxi Chen has been featured as an outstanding representation of service design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Timber and Table Restaurant won the Iron A' Design Award in Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design in 2025. The A' Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design competition that celebrates excellent design of hotels, restaurants, resorts, cafes, bars, cruise ships, theme parks, travel experiences and more.
