Floating Island
Floating Island is an art exhibition held in a narrow venue of 190 square meters. Forty double covers, selected from 153 magazine issues, are printed on transparent acrylic panels and hung from a 9 metre installation placed at the centre. The installation divides the space into two unequal triangular areas and allows fan-shaped seating for lectures. Because the building is a historic site, aluminium truss columns carry the panels without touching the structure. The trusses are reusable, so waste is reduced. Selected furniture and lighting brands are also displayed.
Floating Island Art Exhibition by Zong-Ying Chen has been recognized as an exceptional representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Floating Island Art Exhibition received the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2024. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design award that honors outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
