Grasp the Light
Grasp the Light is a residential interior design completed in Taiwan for a forty-year-old house. The narrow and long building was dark and poorly ventilated, so a glass roof was added to draw daylight into the interior. A solid wood book wall follows the cathedral ceiling and extends to the first floor, where steel frames and glass treads replace the original stairs. Cabinets on both sides divide the areas instead of partitions and keep the space open. A hallway on the second floor links the home to the villa next door, where relatives live. Cedar, cypress, granite and brick are used.
Grasp the Light Residence by HONG-YU OU has been highlighted as an exceptional illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Grasp the Light Residence received the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2022. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design competition which celebrates outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
