Sliding Door
Sliding Door is a renovation project for an apartment in Chiba, Japan. Ten continuous sliding doors were installed in place of a wall. The doors run on two rails, so the connection between the corridor and the rooms can be adjusted. Natural light reaches the corridor, which is often dark in Japanese apartments. A workspace enclosed by glass sliding doors was added in the living area. The doors, the desk and the television board are made of the same plywood. The plan allows work, rest and family life within a limited space.
Sliding Door House by Masaki Suzuki was recognized as an exceptional example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Sliding Door House won the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2022. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design competition that celebrates excellent design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
