Paper for Light
Paper for Light is a residential interior designed as a calm space for meditation. The home of 100 square meters applies oriental paper art as its central concept. Six semi-transparent Shoji panels can be moved along a track to control the intensity and softness of natural light and to guide the airflow, which reduces the need for artificial light and air conditioning. A ceiling shaped like folded paper recalls Origami above a horizontal wood floor. Wood, rice paper and diatom mud balance humidity and limit the use of plastic.
Paper for Light Residential House by Ya-Jung HSIEH was identified as an outstanding illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Paper for Light Residential House earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2021. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design prize which recognizes exceptional design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
